Insomnia might not seem like a serious problem but anyone who has experienced it knows how innerving it is and how it lowers quality of life. Here's why it's important to rid yourself of it in the fastest way possible.
According to experts, there are many possible causes of insomnia: use of chocolate or caffeinated drinks at inappropriate times, changing shifts at work, spiritual anguish, a large dinner and others. As such, the solutions to the problem also vary.
In case you've had one too many energy foods and drinks, you can make a tea with some of the herbs that induce sleep. Boil 1 1/5 cups (300 ml) of water and pour it over 1 tbsp of chamomile. Cover the container and wait for it to cool. Filter it and drink in small sips. For even greater effectiveness, add 1 tbsp honey.
If you can't fall asleep or you wake up as a result of overeating or heaviness in the stomach, you can also use herbal concoctions. Pour 4/5 cup (200 ml) of boiling water over 1 tsp of rosemary and cover. Once the mixture cools, filter it and drink it slowly in small sips. Rosemary is not just an aromatic spice but an herb proven in the battle against digestive problems.
Often we can't fall asleep because we've been working the late shift or staying up late to surf the net. Our body has changed up its biological schedule and now we have to overcome it.
If you're not a fan of teas, you can induce sleep using other methods. You don't have to endure the torture of laying in bed and tossing and turning.
Go out on the porch or balcony and breathe in some cool air. Put on a movie you've already seen, so it doesn't spark your interest but causes boredom instead. Another option is to read a book, although it shouldn't be exciting either because it'll keep you awake. Read boring documentation or lecture notes (if you're in college). Pour yourself a glass of warm milk, sweeten it with a teaspoon of honey and a little cinnamon.
Air out the room you're sleeping in or find a way to cool the air. It's been proven that people sleep better when the air is colder. Be sure to take out the thicker and warmer blankets too. You'll see for yourself that these types of conditions will improve your chances for drifting into the land of dreams.See more
