This 5-Minute Trick will Help you Overcome Insomnia

If you find it difficult to fall asleep at night, there's a 5-minute trick that will help rid you of those intrusive thoughts and relax. There's also certain things you absolutely have to avoid if you're suffering from insomnia.

A lot of people try to ease off into sleep using their techno gadgets but tablets and smart phones only disrupt sleep and ruin its quality.

Instead of peering into your phone, hoping that your eyes will tire, try this 5 min. trick that's recommended by experts.

All you need for it is a sheet of paper and a pen. The goal is to write down a to-do list for the next day or the worries keeping you awake. Set aside 5 min. to describe your worries and you'll find relief.

The most common cause of insomnia is our concern for the future or upcoming tasks. Writing down a list will actually help calm your nerves, instead of constantly imagining various scenarios that prevent you from falling asleep.

Falling Asleep

"We live in a hectic world, where chores and obligations never end. But we must not allow this to turn into a reason for constant anxiety, " Dr. Michael Scullin tells the Independent.

According to the study published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology, spending 5 min. before bed writing down your tasks for the next day could be all you need to fall asleep faster.

Researchers have also found that writing down the things you've already done doesn't have the same effect.
