I was sleeping, but I saw myself above the room

My roommate was already asleep when I got home. I went to bed at 2:00 am. How I slept I have no idea, but at one time I opened my eyes, moved aside the curtain, to get an idea of the time. I thought to get up but could not. I felt powerless. I would say I was afraid. I tried to set foot on the floor, but I could not and then I saw more than one room. I tried to scream, but without success because I did not hear my own voice. I thought I was sleep, I closed my eyes and the moment I opened them, I cried, but so strong that I myself was scared and my roommate had no words.
If anyone knows what that is, please explain. With this story I have two more similar.

I always have dreams like this on nights I'm not really sleepy but try to fall asleep anyway. It's sour of like you can see everything around you but you're paralyzed. I've been experiencing these dreams for maybe 7 years now and they still sometimes freak me out. I've learned to turn these dreams into something a little more enjoyable but this doesn't always work. Sometimes I'm actually able to wake myself up but it took me years to learn how to. Look up "lucid dreams" I believe that's what they're called.
