Superstitions lead us to believe in some kind of supernatural forces, in something that we truly have no explanation for, but are sure that it will occur.
Superstitions are related to wearing all kinds of talismans, casting magic and so on. Many people claim that they don't believe in superstitions, without even thinking that a large majority of the things they do or don't do are also superstitions.
There are also of course people who genuinely follow their superstitious thoughts and submit their entire conscious life to them. There are all kinds of similar beliefs throughout the world, related to health, love, marriage - everything that we are and that surrounds us.
Here are 5 superstitions in which many people believe and seem impervious to the passage of time:
- 7 years bad luck in love if you break a mirror. Sometimes the power of thought and conviction can make a person absolutely believe that that is the reason why they don't have love in their life.
- The next superstition in which many people believe, is pouring water out before some type of important undertaking. In many families, this ritual is done on the first day of school, before an important test, on a wedding day. It is believed that this way we would be successful in that particular enterprise.
- If a black cat crosses our path, this means bad luck. Some people believe in this so strongly that they would be willing to wait for another person to go ahead before them after a cat has crossed their path, and only then would they continue on. In some cultures, black cats are actually considered to carry positive energy.
- To get up out of bed with the left leg first - a horrible sign, right? Getting up with the right leg first would ensure us with luck for the whole day, according to some.
- One of the most popular superstitions is related to pregnancy - the future mom must not announce that she is pregnant until at least the third month has passed (according to some, the fourth must pass).
Some other extremely popular superstitions are not to sing while eating because you would marry a drunk, or not to leave your handbag on the floor because lack of money would await you. An incredibly popular superstition is not to sit on the edge of the table because 2 opposing sides would want you.
In truth, there are so many superstitions that even if we claim that we don't believe in such things, there is always something that each one of us does that is related to a superstition, even if we don't realize it.
Looking for a 4 leaf clover for example, to bring us luck, as well as touching a chimney sweeper are also superstitions. Another widely popular belief is that carrying red thread would protect us from curses.
