Phones break, checks are lost, contracts are misread, appointments are double-booked and confusion swirls in almost every type of conversation. Welcome to Mercury Retrograde!
The good news is: everyone, regardless of their sign, will experience this upheaval.
The bad news is: No one is immune to the destructive forces of this infamous transit.
So what should you be doing during the next Mercury retrograde weeks? The first rule is don't panic. With a little foresight, you can avoid some major missteps and actually thrive during this difficult season.
Here's what to do — and what not to do — during Mercury retrograde so you can get out of the abyss unscathed:
Things NOT to do while Mercury is retrograde
To sign contracts
Don't sign contracts without triple checking the fine print. Mercury wreaks havoc on communication, so make sure you know exactly what you're signing or agreeing to before you do. If something is wrong, ask the unclear questions. And make sure you have enough backup material to back up your actions.
Buy electronics
Just avoid this action at all costs until Mercury moves into its next phase. It's likely that something with the purchased electronics will go wrong anyway, so the better option is to stick with what you have until the planets line up in their proper position.
Gossip
Don't talk behind people's back. This is something that is advised to be avoided outside of Mercury retrograde as well. Especially in this period, you can almost be sure that the person you're talking about will hear you (or read the text or see the email) in the next few weeks. Until the retrograde season passes, accept that everything you say will be heard by everyone in your circle.
Things to do while Mercury is retrograde
Just say No
One of the advantages of Mercury retrograde is that it brings back the past. In other words, this is a great time to commit to, or completely part with, a past relationship, project, or idea. Since communication is influenced by Mercury retrograde, this is also a great time to figure out exactly what you want to say, including what you intend to stand for. Bad language will not be tolerated. Instead of saying "maybe", just say "no"!
Archive important documents
Ideally, do this before Mercury goes into retrograde. Make sure all important documents, photos and other information are backed up. It's also a good time to make sure all your finances are organized so you can deal with any discrepancies.
Finish started projects
Tie the loose ends. Whether you're finally doing a home improvement project or tackling a task you've been putting off at work, Mercury Retrograde is a great time to finally get to the bottom of your tasks. In fact, these few weeks are a bad time to start new projects, so you might as well finish what you already have on your priority list.
Try a new workout
Channel your energy into something new (non-tech). You may not stick with it, but if you do, it could become the new passion of your life!
Enjoy solitude
Have fun! One great thing about Mercury retrograde is that it just requires you to go with the flow. The universe wants you to have some solitude, so if things are frustrating, why not hold off and get to them in a few weeks? This is the optimal time to focus on health, friends, family and the people you love.
