The animated series The Simpsons is one of the most popular around the world, although it is not recommended for children.
Besides being very funny, the series also stands out for its ability to see into the future. There are not one or two cases where scenes shown in the animation actually happened in the real world.
The phenomenon is even studied in universities. A few years ago at the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Glasgow there was a seminar on how The Simpsons predicts future events.
The series is 31 years old, with over 700 episodes aired. And because of the strange predictions, it became the center of conspiracy theories, according to which the authors of the animation belong to a secret society dedicated to special knowledge.
Here are some of The Simpsons's most impressive prophecies.
AutoCorrect
Long before we got used to new technologies, hardly anyone imagined that our phone or watch would be "smart". In 1995, an episode aired that introduced the idea of a watch that could be used as a telephone. This happens 20 years before the first Apple Watch smartwatch hit the market.
The discovery of the Higgs boson equation
Another scientific discovery was broadcast in 1998. In the episode The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace, Homer Simpson became an inventor. In one of the scenes, he is standing in front of a blackboard with a complex equation written on it. It wasn't until 2013 that scientists found evidence of the boson in an experiment that cost just £10.4 billion.
Donald Trump - President
Perhaps the most impressive Simpsons prediction is the victory of Donald Trump in the presidential election. The episode aired in 2000 and was titled Bart to the Future. In it, Lisa becomes the president of the United States, succeeding Trump, who has left the country in a terrible state.
Lady Gaga and the Super Bowl
In 2012, an episode was broadcast in which the pop star Lady Gaga visited the town of Springfield. There, she performs a concert in the air, fireworks shooting out of her bra. Five years later, Gaga sang at halftime of the Super Bowl. Interestingly, at the beginning of her performance, she flies off the roof of the stadium.
Tiger attacks Roy Horne
Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn are famous tamers with a show in Las Vegas. The two are known for their wildcat stunts. However, they end up on The Simpsons in 1993. In the episode, a white tiger attacks Gunther and Ernst during their show as revenge for being kidnapped from the wild. Ten years later, it came true. In 2003, Roy Horn was attacked by a white tiger. The Beast Tamer survives, but is seriously injured, and that's ultimately the end of the star duo.
The merge of Disney and Fox
An episode titled When You Dish Upon A Star, which first aired in 1998, shows a sign that says 20th Century Fox, Division of Walt Disney Co. Only 9 nine years later, this is already a fact. In 2017, Disney announced that it was buying 20th Century Fox.
The coronavirus
It is believed that The Simpsons also predicted the emergence of the coronavirus. In one of the episodes, the residents of Springfield acquire Japanese juicers, which they carry over from Asia a dangerous virus after one of the workers who make them sneezes into the box. Soon an epidemic of Osaka flu begins in the town, panic sets in, people demand vaccines.
What else will happen remains to be seen. Their last prediction is believed to have been the attack on the Capitol which occurred on January 6, 2021.
