The truth is that Jesus Christ never spoke out against sex but despite this the church has preached strict rules regarding the intimacy between 2 people, shows a BBC report.
Sexual behavior has been an issue troubling the Christian church for more than 2000 years.
For Christians around the world, the Bible is the main source of information about the rules of pious behavior. The Old Testament and the Four Gospels of the New Testament make up the etiquette and morals that every Christian must follow.
In the Biblical texts there are clear messages against homosexuality, for which the church also does not tolerate it.
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. (Leviticus 18:22)
In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. (Romans 1:27)
When it comes to sexual relations, the Bible is categorical in that they must be monogamous. They are allowed only when the man and woman are wed in holy matrimony.
But why then does the church preach self-restraint? It is believed that this comes from the interpretation of the theologian Saint Augustine, who thought that the myth of original sin was all because of sexual desires.
According to him, Eve tempted Adam with her body and once they gave in to their lust they were thrown out of Heaven. His preachings led Christians to be ashamed of their flesh and desires for centuries after.
This all changed with the teachings of Martin Luther, who announced that sex was not a sin and even urged priests to marry, breaking their vow of celibacy according to Catholic canon.
