Artificial intelligence is a threat to humanity's existence. This warning was given by the billionaire and founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, during a Q&A session organized by an Internet website.

Bill Gates shared with participants that he has joined the camp of those worried by artificial intelligence.

"First the machines will do a lot of jobs for us and not be super intelligent. That should be positive if we manage it well, " explained Gates, "A few decades after that though the intelligence is strong enough to be a concern."

Other members of the camp of those concerned with the advancement of technology and artificial intelligence include world famous British physicist Stephen Hawking, as well as businessman, entrepreneur and inventor Elon Musk.

In October of last year, the CEO of SpaceX and chief product architect of Tesla Motors warned that AI poses the "most serious existential threat" to the human race.

A month later, Musk's words were backed by the brilliant scientist Stephen Hawking, who issued a warning to everyone that there is a very real danger for artificial intelligence to quickly reach and surpass human intelligence.

Hawking lays out a dark possible future, highly similar to the plot in the Terminator movie series, where humanity is on its way to being completely wiped off the face of the Earth by AI.

One of the concerns of scientists is that AI is not limited by the slow biological evolution that hinders us people. It can be separated and redesigned exceptionally quickly, not needing generations, as is seen in nature.

The question of whether or not AI presents a threat to man's future has long been a subject of interest for scientists, authors and ordinary people.

One of the most prominent characters in Stanley Kubrick's movie based on the book of author, mathematician and physicist Arthur C. Clarke "2001: A Space Odyssey" is the AI known as HAL, which turns into a killer when its existence becomes threatened.
