At the end of spring, citizens of the region of northern Croatia became witnesses to an unusual natural phenomenon - May snow had covered the town.
Snowflakes fell in the region of Gorski Kotar last night, covering some of the main roads in that part of the country.
The snow coverage was found in areas at 2300 ft (700 m) above sea level. Yesterday, there were heavy rains and sleet, accompanied by high winds.
The tendency for heat waves and summer temperatures to arrive abruptly in Europe will continue this year as well.
Scientists have come to the conclusion that at some point, spring and fall will disappear in Europe, and the only seasons that will remain will be summer and winter.
It is claimed that within 50 years, there will be drastic shifts between cold and warm temperatures.
Observations by German climatologists from the University of Giessen have led them to reach the conclusion that summer 2014 will be the hottest summer worldwide in the history of synoptic observations.
For now there are no signs of such heat waves, since temperatures have been below average in April.
According to meteorologists, the expected warming will begin starting early next week.
The reason for this will be the southern winds, which will raise temperatures to 80°F (25 °C).
