Lack of sleep favors the accumulation of proteins in the nerve synapses, or points of connection between the neurons which, are important for the passage of information between the nerve cells, according to a survey of Italian scientists.
According to them, sleep is a time when the brain puts in order all the information and eliminates the unnecessary.
The scientists observed a group of flies, allowed to sit up 24 hours, and using a powerful telescope, they saw that this leads to an increased concentration of protein in five synapses.
Allowing the flies to sleep, showed the amount of these proteins decreased by 30-40 percent.
