91-year-old Janina Kolkiewicz will forever be remembered in medical history with her resurrection, 11 hours after she was pronounced dead by medical staff.
The elderly woman collapsed in her home in Ostrow Lubelski in Poland. She was immediately driven to the nearest hospital, were she was issued a death certificate.
To the amazement of workers however, 11 hours after being declared dead, Kolkiewicz woke up in her morgue chamber. The unusual noises led the workers to open the chamber and witness, to their horror, how the black body bag was moving.
"I prepared her death certificate. I do not know how this is possible; I'm still in shock. She had no pulse, did not breathe. I was positive that she was dead, " told the chief physician at the hospital in front of Agence France-Presse.
One of the relatives of the Polish woman who came back to life shares in front of media that she does not remember anything of the event, since she suffers from an advanced stage of multiple sclerosis.
The niece of the 91-year-old Janina stated that after she came home, the elderly woman shared that she was very cold in the hospital and asked for warm tea.
The death certificate of the Polish woman has been labeled as invalid and according to her family, she already feels much better.
Authorities in Poland have begun investigating the case. It's possible for the chief physician who signed the death certificate to be held accountable under the law.
Last year, a similar incident occurred in the Polish town of Piotrków, when a drunk man was accidentally proclaimed dead by doctors.
56-year-old Marek Michalski got drunk to the point where he passed out in one of the streets in the town. He was found by random passersby who immediately called emergency services.
The paramedics that arrived determined that the man showed no signs of life and declared him dead. However, a few hours later, Michalski woke up on the autopsy table, wrapped in a body bag.
He began screaming for help but there was no one around and he had to get off the table himself.
