People who have pets don't have sleep problems, neurophysiology experts from the US say. If you have a cat or dog in your home, it's a mistake to kick them out of the bedroom for the night, since their presence has a calming effect on the human nervous system.

The soothing purring of a cat or peaceful snoring of a dog in the room is subconsciously identified as a lullaby by the human brain. Of course if your dog belongs to one of the breeds that has problems with snoring - such as pugs, French bulldogs or other ones that have difficulty breathing, you'll definitely find it hard to fall asleep.

But if you wish to enjoy a sound, lasting sleep, it's a good idea to leave your pet in the bedroom with you. This is especially important to those living alone, say experts. The presence of another living thing has a calming effect on humans, whether it be another person or an animal.

Dogs

It's very rare for people sleeping in the company of their pets to actually wake up in the middle of the night because their cat or dog had moved. Often during cold weather, people who let their pets in not only their bedroom but in their bed as well, can take advantage of the additional heat they provide.

It's another issue altogether when some pets simply refuse to get up on the bed of their master, even if allowed to. But the majority of cats and dogs jump into their owner's bed with joy or choose to lie by the foot of the bed during the night.

Some cat owners put them on their chest while falling asleep, claiming that this way they doze off in mere minutes, even if they've had a rough and hectic day. The vibrations from the body of the purring cat act soothingly and quickly take their owner into the land of dreams, while they wake up feeling refreshed and rested in the morning.

Dogs provide a similar effect. They are always mindful of their master's mood and if he's tired, they simply curl up next to him and fall asleep, just happy to be near the person who is most important to them.
